VDU Assessments
Display Screen Equipment (formerly VDU) means any alphanumeric or graphic screen, regardless of the display process involved (DSE=VDU).
Display screen equipment (DSE) is widely used in all workplaces and has been proved to be contributing factor to back injury and eye strain and repetitive strain injury.
Chapter 5 of 2007 Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (General Application) Regulations requires that all DSE/VDU users are adequately protected and that the equipment provided is not a source of risk to employees.
An employer is required by law to perform analysis of all workstations and provide training to employees in the use of workstations before commencing work with display screen equipment and whenever the organisation of the workstation is substantially modified.
AK Safety Management provides individual assessments of workstations and individual coaching sessions with employees and explains how to correctly set up their workstation so it does not become a source of injury or discomfort.
Typical individual assessment lasts 20-30 minutes and covers instructions on the correct set up of chair, monitor, mouse and a keyboard, temperature humidity and light checks, advise on eye exercises, etc.
Benefits of assessments:
- Reduced risk of injury;
- Compliance with legal requirement;
- Increased productivity.
"We were particularly impressed with how the VDU assessments were carried out with minimal interference with our business and that the recommendations and advise from the Consultant were very valuable."
