Respirator Fit Testing

Under the current Health and safety Legislation all employers are required to provide fit testing for their employees before they can wear respirators and other Respiratory Protection Equipment (RPE).

Fit testing is performed to ensure that a tight fitting face piece matches the person`s facial features and seals the wearer`s face reducing the exposure level.

Successful respiratory protection depends on:

  • The hazards present
  • The respiratory protection equipment fitting correctly
  • The wearer being trained in the use of equipment
  • Correct cleaning, storage and maintenance of equipment

Why is respiratory protection equipment testing is necessary?

  • If the respirator is not fitted correctly, then the wearer has reduced protection leading to immediate or long-term ill health
  • Mandatory under the current Health and Safety Law

When should a fit test be carried out?

  • Before the wearer is issued with RPE
  • If the wearer undergoes changes (weight loss or gain, facial changes, etc)
  • At least annually

All our fit testing is completed by suitably qualified and experienced fit testing professionals. Please Contact Us for further details.
