Occupational First Aid

Course Information:

Employers are required to provide a certain number of Occupational First Aiders in the workplace. This is a requirement of 2007 Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (General Application) Regulations (Part 7, Chapter 2 – First Aid). The number of first aiders depends on the size of premises, nature of business, proximity of medical services, and number of employees and is also specified in the General Application Regulations.

This highly interactive course will provide participants with the knowledge and practical skills to give effective life support and maintain care and comfort of an injured person until arrival of emergency services.

The course meets the requirements of 2007 Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (General Application) Regulations (Part 7, Chapter 2 – First Aid). FETAC Level 5 certificate is received on successful completion of the Course.

Course objectives:

At the end of this course participants will:

  • Know how to administer first aid in the workplace
  • Be able to carry out patient assessment
  • Be able to perform CPR and use Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
  • Be able to treat wounds and stop bleeding
  • Be able to deal with musculoskeletal injuries, burns/scalds, electric shock, etc

Refresher requirements:

  • One day every two years
